You will pass the closest land to the South Island on the edge of the rugged Cook Strait, “Ohau Point”. Historic gun emplacements and the Makara Wind Farm line the coastline filled with seal colonies. Returning into Wellington you will view New Zealand’s parliament building - the Beehive, our famous rugby stadium - the Cake Tin and our National Museum - Te Papa. Explore what lies beyond Wellington City with a flight west towards the majestic Makara Wind Farm. On turning to the south view the wild south coast where seal colonies line the rugged shores. Karori Rock Lighthouse appears as a standing testament to the shipping dangers of one of the worlds roughest stretches of water, the Cook Strait. Views of the South Island may be visible on a clear day. On returning to Wellington Harbour, you will capture a great overview of the capital city and its colourful landmark buildings. This flight will take you far beyond the reaches of Wellington City up to Paekakariki, following the entirety of what will eventually be a 27 kilometre four-lane highway. Return via the coast over Pukerua Bay taking in magnificent views of Kapiti and Mana Island. On a clear day catch glimpses of the beautiful Te Wai Pounamu (South Island) with the Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Ranges. Finish by returning over the rolling hills to the Capital City.
