Open Day at Helicopter Base
Cantabrians flocked to the Christchurch base of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter on April 22nd to enjoy the annual Air Rescue Open Day. This popular event is held annually to highlight the work of our air rescue services and rescue partner organisations such as St John, New Zealand Fire Service, Search and Rescue, Police and many more. The Open Day event gives the public an informative 'hands-on' look at our rescue services in action. The relevance and importance of our work was dramatically highlighted to the large crowd in attendance when the Westpac Rescue helicopter was suddenly called out to attend a major motor-vehicle accident at Otira.
The Open Day also highlights the beginning of the Annual Chopper Awareness Month run in conjunction with Westpac and held nationwide throughout May.
Unfortunately, bad weather forced the cancellation of the Greymouth Open Day on Sunday 29th April.
The response from the crowds of children and adults who attended was tremendous, ensuring that the Open Days will remain a popular fixture on our fundraising events calendar for many years to come.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated army of volunteers who make our Open Days possible.
