One of our newest Pilot/Flight Instructors to join the garden City Helicopters is Juliet Earle . Here's what Juliet has to say about pursuing her passion for aviation:
"Growing up in Christchurch, I knew from the age of 5 that I wanted to fly…and I distinctly remember the day that I decided I wanted to be…an astronaut! My parents were very supportive, and they decided to let me discover for myself just what that would involve…
Some time and lots of research later I realised how lofty that goal actually was, so I scaled that down to being a pilot. Growing up I did have Barbie dolls…but they flew fighter jets instead of driving to the mall to go shopping.
I first set about getting a “backup career”, and went to Otago Uni to complete a Bachelor of Physical Education. I dabbled in elite sport (track cycling), and tried on the corporate office-type career to see how it fit. It didn’t, and after working in the rehabilitation/gym industry for a few years, I realised that what I really wanted was to be passionate about work. So I made the decision to pursue my dream career of flying.
I researched flight training, and ended up doing my CPL in just under 8 months. Following that, I got my instructor rating, and was offered a job with the company who trained me. I spent the following few years building experience and hours, which has been more amazing than I ever could have imagined! That was almost 5 years ago, and I haven’t looked back!
After having a baby in November 2012, my wonderful partner suggested that he look after our little unit of human, so I could go back to flying. So I started work for Garden City Helicopters, which has been an awesome experience so far. I’m looking forward to a bright and exciting future in aviation!"
